Security & Logging

WordFence – This is a great overall plugin and provides bruteforce protection, banning of IPs attempting to log in with erroneous usernames, weekly reports of plugin or theme updates and other data, application firewall, overall very useful. Also has a premium version with more features.
IP Geo Block – Blocks specific areas or all areas of the site from being viewed by people in any country. Highly configurable with fine grained detail, 0day protection, updated IP address lists from multiple sources, advanced logging. Very useful and excellent at stopping attacks.
WP Security Audit Log – Detailed log of the activities on the system. Very useful for tracking down who did something. Installation, deactivcation, reactivation or removal of plugins and themes, user account changes, media or any post/page changes, logins/logouts. Also has a premium version with more features.

Statistics

Slimstat Analytics – Excellent and highly detailed site statistics plugin. Features too numerous to name but all the standard ones you’re used to plus many more. Also has some premium addons with more features such as options separate database container(very handy if you like to archive data indefinitely).

Utilities

Members – Advanced user role editor, creator manager. Also has a handy content permissions module that can be activated for control over content by user role.
Simple Custom CSS – This is a great plugin for adding additional CSS to any theme. Clean, simple editor that keeps your custom CSS isolated with built-in syntax checker, very handy.

Development

Query Monitor – If your site is taking abnormally long to return results of a search or other query, whether on the front or backend this is a great resource to have at your disposal for debugging. Any serious WordPress user should have this one in their toolkit.
WP Optimize – Great for taking out the trash periodically, post revisions can really stack up over time, any auto-drafts, stale transients, wipe it all out pretty quickly for more average sized sites.
String Locator – Invaluable if you’ve ever banged your head over trying to find in which theme template file a certain function or class appears, or where any keyword is located within your entire theme directory, plugins directory or your whole WordPress directory. Another one for the WordPress power users toolkit.
Better Search Replace – If you move sites a lot, this one will help make the transition smooth as silk. Simple and easy to use with the highly recommended “safe mode” enabled by default. You don’t want to make a mistake so be sore you have the complete URLs correct before running it live.
Child Theme Configurator – A very simple tool for creating a child theme from virtually any parent theme out there. Simply install it and run it, choose the parent theme to make the child of and leave the other options alone and generate it. In the “Files” tab you can copy individual or a group of template files from the parent to the child automatically.
Show Current Template – This is useful when trying to determine the template or templates being used to render any given page or post or custom post type. Very helpful for showing you exactly what files to look in.
